Description
Mustela nigripes
The rarest native mammal in the United States, the Black-Footed Ferret is one of only three species of ferrets in the world.
Spending most of its time burrowed underground, the elusive Black-Footed Ferret is renowned for its keen sense of smell. Small in stature, it ranges in size from 18-24 inches and typically weighs between 1.5 -2.5 pounds. With its slender body and short legs, it is capable of moving quickly among the grasslands, blending easily with plants and other vegetation in search of prey. A nocturnal prowler, the Black-Footed Ferret feeds on prairie dogs and other small rodents.
This coin features a detailed depiction of a Black-Footed Ferret on its obverse. Bordered by a classic wreath design, the reverse contains a space for engraving.
This proof-like coin is minted in MerlinGold,® a proprietary brass alloy that simulates the look and feel of gold.
