Description
A critical element of the Air Force Global Strike Command, Whiteman Air Force Base is home to the 509th Bomb Wing. The 509th operates the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber, the most technically sophisticated and effective bomber in United States history. Whiteman AFB is the only permanent base for the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, and can launch combat sorties directly from its location in Missouri to any part of the globe, engaging adversaries with nuclear or conventional weapon payloads.
From the B-2s first combat debut during the war in Kosovo to Operation Odyssey Dawn, the aircraft has shown exceptional ability to enforce the mission of the US Air Force across the globe with minimal civilian casualty. .
Minted in solid nickel alloy, and hand-finished with an antique patina for exceptional quality and detail, this coin is dedicated to the brave pilots and support crews that make sure the B-2 Stealth Bomber is ready to enforce American interests abroad. The obverse features the first B-2 Spirit in flight on a background of the American flag, imbued with durable enamel accents, with the plane’s name, Spirit of Missouri. The reverse displays the insignia of the United States Air Force Global Strike Command.
