The town of Harpers Ferry, for which she is named, dates back to the beginning days of our country. The town made its first notable stamp on history in 1859 when abolitionists, led by John Brown, raided its federal arsenal in hopes of arming slaves and freedom fighters. Later in 1862 a pivotal battle exploded on the town’s soil that may just have won the war for the north. Minted in proof-like nickel, this buckle features a depiction of the USS Harpers Ferry ((LSD-49) cutting through the sea, flanked by a brilliant U.S. flag and the ship’s crest. The military slide-lock buckle attaches easily with a clasp to secure the fixed end of the webbing and a slide pin to hold the adjustable portion of the belt.
