Description
The United States Space Force (USSF) is the space service branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, one of the eight U.S. uniformed services, and the world’s first and currently only independent space force. Along with its sister-branch, the U.S. Air Force, the Space Force is part of the Department of the Air Force, one of the three civilian-led military departments within the Department of Defense. The United States Space Force Act codified the Space Force as organized, trained, and equipped to “provide freedom of operation for the United States in, from, and to space” and “provide prompt and sustained space operations,” with its stated duties enumerated as to “protect the interests of the United States in space, deter aggression in, from, and to space, and conduct space operations.”
The U.S. Space Force is a military service that organizes, trains, and equips space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force. USSF responsibilities will include developing Guardians, acquiring military space systems, maturing the military doctrine for space power, and organizing space forces to present to our Combatant Commands.
With the re-designation of AFSPC as U.S. Space Force, approximately 16,000 military and civilian space personnel were assigned to the Space Force on Dec. 20, 2019. These assigned personnel are at present time Airmen within the U.S. Air Force.
This medallion honors the personnel of America’s newest uniformed branch of service, featuring the official licensed emblem of the USSF. This coin features a shiny, silver-like finish.
