Renowned for their superior skill, unmatched precision, and fierce discipline, the soldiers of the U.S. Army’s Special Forces unit, also known as the Green Berets, are members of the world’s most elite specialized fighting force.
The Green Berets, first established as an agent of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War 2, have served with distinction in every major American conflict over the past five decades. An extremely versatile force, the Green Berets are capable of executing a complete range of deep cover operations, including direct action, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, and search and recovery campaigns. Masters of utilizing the element of surprise to complete their clandestine missions, Special Forces Soldiers have earned the reputation as “Quiet Professionals.”
This coin honors the Special Forces’ unique contribution to the success of America’s military operations throughout the world and salutes the courage of those soldiers skilled enough to wear the Green Beret. The obverse replicates the crossed arrow design of the Special Forces’ Branch Insignia. The reverse contains the official seal of the U.S. Army.
Minted in a brass alloy and finished in bronze, this coin is imbued with rich enamel on both sides.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
