Description
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter-bomber that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in frontline service until the end of the war.
This coin honors the pivotal role played by the P-40 Warhawk during World War II and commemorates the aircraft’s enduring legacy of freedom. The obverse features a Warhawk with its signature shark mouth livery below the words “American Airpower.” The reverse features the historic emblem of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Minted in a brass alloy and given an antique bronze finish, the coin’s reverse is imbued with rich enamel accents.
Each coin measures 1 1/2 inch (39mm) in diameter.
