Operation Odyssey Dawn is the code name assigned by the U.S. Military for the international military operation against longtime Libyan dictator Colonel Muammar Khaddafi.
The goal of the international coalition is to impose a no-fly zone over Libya to deter forces loyal to Goddafi that have been indiscriminately targeting the civilian population. As the tip of the spear, United States pilots and Tomahawk cruise missiles were instrumental in grounding the Libyan Air Forces and neutralizing their anti-aircraft defense systems.
