Mount Shasta is the second highest peak in the Cascade Range and the most prominent peak in northern California. The USGS (and our hiking medallion) has the summit recorded at 14,162 feet. Although a recent resurvey of the peak differs and tags it at 14,179, most official records still reflect the older, lower figure.
Featuring difficult and varied terrain, it presents a serious challenge to climbers from all over the world. Demanding limitless patience and the highest levels of physical and mental endurance, Mount Shasta’s steep slopes and well guarded summit frustrate the efforts of all but the most dedicated climbers.
This coin salutes the outstanding acheivement of those who have crested Mount Shasta’s towering summit. The obverse contains a rendering of the mountain and details its elevation. The reverse features a climber standing atop Mount Shasta’s peak beneath the word “Summiteer.”
Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is finished in antique bronze.
Each coin measures 1 1/2 inch (39mm) in diameter.
