Description
The highest point in the Northern Cascades with an elevation of 10,778 feet, Mount Baker is Washington State’s third highest peak. Supporting twelve glaciers that cover more than twenty square miles, its steep slopes contain more snow and ice than most of the other Cascade volcanoes combined. Its gleaming white cone smiles down on the lowlands of Northern Puget Sound, where the locals regard its presence as an old friend.
Year after year, Mount Baker also draws a steady stream of climbers interested in a challenging ascent rewarded by long views of watery lowlands. But many who initiate the climb sometimes descend in frustration from difficult conditions and unpredictable weather.
This coin honors Mt. Baker and any for whom the mountain holds meaning. The obverse contains a detailed rendering of Mount Baker and includes its elevation. The reverse depicts a mountain climber climbing upwards.
Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is finished in antique bronze.
Each coin measures 1 1/2 (39mm) in diameter.
