Description
Founded in 1802, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. Since its inception, its mission has been to train and inspire the Army’s Corps of Cadets to ready them for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation.
Strategically located atop a commanding plateau on the west bank of the Hudson River, it served as a major American stronghold throughout the Revolutionary War. In 1779, General George Washington located his headquarters there. Much of the history taught at West Point has been made by its graduates, which include many of America’s greatest leaders.
This coin honors that centuries-old tradition and salutes all those Cadets who have walked its hallowed grounds on their way to excellence as commissioned officers in the U.S. Army.
Using a specialized technique called “splash minting,” this coin has exceptional relief, extremely high detail, a thicker profile and authoritative weightiness. The reverse features an open area available for personalized engraving.
Minted in a proprietary brass alloy and given an antique finish, this coin has enamel rim area to highlight the wording.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
