Description

If you believe in America, these are the three strongest words in our history. Having proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,” the US Constitution – the blueprint for the American government – begins with these words, immediately identifying by whose authority our nation will be ruled.

From the first acts, including the Boston Tea Party, American colonies sought independence from Great Britain for “a long train of abuses and usurpations” by a monarchical government claiming divine authority and imposing tyrannical laws upon its subjects. Ours has been a nation built upon principles. These include the concept of unalienable rights possessed by all, and not given by despotic whim, as framed in the Bill of Rights.

A watchful eye must continue to be cast even on this most perfect of governments. Patriots two centuries ago and today knew so. Thomas Jefferson said, “Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.” Today, political activists on all points on the American political spectrum are likely to agree that dissent is the highest form of patriotism – even if the origin of the phrase is difficult to pinpoint.

If you believe that your government exists only because of your consent – if you believe that politicians are not serving your needs – if you believe that the wants of the many are being paid for by the few – then carry this coin. Show it and share it so that others know that you are a true believer in liberty above all, and that we, the people, will not go gently when the well-meaning want to take us down the garden path and take our freedom along the way.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
