A Caribbean wonderland covering more than half of St. John Island, Virgin Islands National Park is an oasis of coral reefs, tropical forests and spring-fed waterfalls. The park includes over 12,000 acres of submerged lands and includes some of the most beautiful beaches found anywhere in the world.
The medallion’s obverse shows a ship sailing off the coast of the islands with the date the park was established in 1956. The reverse shows one of the old sugar mills that are part of the rich history of the Virgin Islands. Minted in deep relief, this coin is struck in bronze and given a beautiful lacquered finished.
