Description
The USS Somerset (LPD-25) plays a critical role in America’s naval superiority across the globe. A San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, she is well equipped to support amphibious operations in any theater.
The ship is named after the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, whose actions prevented the plane, hijacked by terrorists, from reaching their intended target during the September 11 attacks of 2001. These heroic few forced the airplane to crash in Stonycreek Township in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The Navy used 22 tons of steel from a crane near the crash site to construct the bow stem of the USS Somerset, a tribute to and the embodiment of the steely determination of those on the flight and those who battle the nation’s enemies.
Commissioned on 1 March 2014, the USS Somerset has a displacement of approximately 25,000 tons stretches some 684 feet in length, and can carry a fully equipped battalion of approximately 800 Marines. Its amphibious support capabilities make the USS Somerset ideal to support the Navy’s critical mission abroad.
Minted in antique nickel, this buckle features the USS Somerset LPD 25’s likeness slicing through the water, spotlighted by a brilliantly enameled U.S. flag, and the ship’s crest. The military slide-lock buckle attaches easily with a clasp to secure the fixed end of the webbing and a slide pin to hold the adjustable portion of the belt.
Whether this is worn proudly on a uniform aboard ship, off duty, or displayed in a shadow box, this striking belt buckle makes a perfect gift, souvenir, or award for service for any enlisted sailor, relative, or loved one. Wear your pride today.
