The USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG-60) is a force for defending American interests and protecting freedom across the globe. An Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate for the U.S. Navy, she is marvelously equipped to succeed in even the most demanding of missions. Named after Sergeant Rodney Maxwell Davis, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his exceptional heroism in the Vietnam War, the USS Rodney M. Davis and her crew live up to his legacy of pride in service and strength of character.
Commissioned on 9 May 1987, the USS Rodney M. Davis has a displacement of approximately 4,100 long tons and stretches some 453 feet in length. Armed with naval guns and anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine torpedoes, with other weapons, she is equipped for surface-to-air, surface-to-surface, and anti-submarine warfare. She is also the home to two SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopters.
This coin is minted in bronze, finished with an antique patina, and pays tribute to the USS Rodney M. Davis, saluting the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains a starboard image of the USS Rodney M. Davis sailing through the ocean. The reverse displays the shield and crest of the USS Rodney M. Davis, imbued with bold colorful enamel.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) round in diameter.
