Description
Celebrate your allegiance to the “the best damn crew on the best damn warship in the United States Navy” by owning this antique solid bronze USS Preble (DDG-88) challenge coin.
With a homeport in Pearl Harbor, HI, the USS Preble (DDG-88) is the sixth vessel in the U.S. naval fleet to bear the Preble appellation. From the sea, she and her dedicated crew defend our freedoms, continuing a long and valiant history that began with her namesake, Commodore Edward Preble.
Edward Preble launched his prestigious naval career in 1778 at the age of 16, when he sailed off on a privateer. Steadfast courage and intelligence propelled him up the ranks to eventually capture the command of the frigate Essex as her captain. In 1803 Commodore Preble achieved his fame in Tripoli harbor, laying siege to pirates attacking American trade vessels — his most revered naval exploit. With a relentless and fiery raid, he and his men amassed heavy casualties during their successful feat.
Today, the USS Preble sails on with an unshakable commitment to honor and courage as she and her selfless crew work to preserve U.S. interests and sovereignty. So whether you’re one of the many dedicated brothers and sisters in arms who have served aboard the missile destroyer or a civilian who wants to show support, this uniquely minted challenge coin will forever connect you to the past, present, and future.
As you hold the coin in your hand, experience the USS Preble’s coat-of-arms on the reverse: feel the raging fire of Commodore Preble’s historic bombardment; hear the lion’s head roaring with the courage of her crew; feel the readiness of the cutlass and sword to strike in future battles.
On the obverse, Old Glory flies proudly above the USS Preble (DDG-88) in full profile. Traditional naval colors of gold and black encircle both sides of this solid bronze coin.
With this challenge coin in your possession, you prove you’re united with those who will “be ready to fight and fight to win” with honor, courage, and commitment.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) round in diameter.
