The USS McFaul (DDG-74) is vital for defending American interests and protecting freedom across the globe. An Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer for the US Navy, she is marvelously equipped to succeed in even the most demanding of missions.

Named after Chief Petty Officer Donald Lewis McFaul, a recipient of the Navy Cross and Purple Heart, the USS McFaul and her crew live up to his legacy of pride in service and strength of character. Chief McFaul was a United States Navy SEAL killed in action at Paitilla Airfield during the 1989 United States invasion of Panama. The Navy posthumously awarded Chief McFaul the Purple Heart and Navy Cross for his heroism during the battle while pulling another SEAL to safety.

Commissioned on 22 July 1995, the USS McFaul has a displacement of approximately 8,900 long tons and stretches some 505 feet in length. Armed with naval guns and anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine missiles, plus other weapons, she is equipped for surface-to-air, surface-to-surface, and anti-submarine warfare. She also is the home to a SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter.

This coin pays tribute to the USS McFaul and salutes the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains a portrait of the ship’s namesake, Chief Petty Officer Donald Lewis McFaul, with a Navy Cross on the left, and a starboard view of the USS McFaul. The reverse displays the shield and crest of the USS McFaul.

Minted in solid bronze, using special deep-relief coining dies, and hand-finished with an antique patina for exceptional quality in incredible detail.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
