The USS Gravely (DDG-107) holds an important place in defending American interests and protecting freedom across the globe. As an Arleigh Burke class destroyer for the US Navy, she is impressively equipped to succeed in even the most demanding of missions.

The USS Gravely is named after Vice Admiral Samuel Lee Gravely Jr., the first African American in the U.S. Navy to serve aboard a fighting ship as an officer, the first to command a Navy ship, the first fleet commander, and the first to become a flag officer. Admiral Gravely’s military decorations include the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two service stars, the United Nations Korea Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Commissioned on 20 November 2010, the USS Gravely has a displacement of approximately 9,200 long tons and stretches some 510 feet in length. Armed with naval guns and anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine missiles, plus other weapons, she is equipped for surface-to-air, surface-to-surface, and anti-submarine warfare. She also is the home for two SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopters.

The obverse contains a montage of the ship’s namesake, Admiral Samuel Lee Gravely Jr., with a portside view of the USS Gravely cutting through the water, and the ship’s motto “First to Conquer.” The reverse displays the seal of the USS Gravely.

Minted in solid bronze, using special deep-relief coining dies, and hand-finished with an antique patina for exceptional quality in incredible detail.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
