Description
The USS Georgia (SSBN-729/SSGN-729), an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, was commissioned on February 11, 1984, and re-designated to SSGN on March 1, 2004. In March 2005, Georgia entered Norfolk Naval Shipyard for her scheduled Engineered Refueling Overhaul and SSGN conversion, which was completed in February 2008. After the refit, Georgia moved to her new home port in Kings Bay, Georgia. She has been awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendation for Submarine Operations.
This coin honors the USS Georgia, and all those who have served aboard her. Minted in a brass alloy and given an antique finish, the coin is imbued with the bold colors of the submarine’s emblem. The reverse has a small plate suitable for engraving a name or other personal message.
Each coin measures 1.75 inch (44mm) in diameter.
