Description
The USS Comstock (LSD-45) plays a critical role in America’s naval superiority across the globe. A Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship, she is well equipped to support amphibious operations in any theater. The USS Comstock is named for the Comstock Lode, the first major discovery of silver ore in the United States.
Commissioned on 3 February 1990, the USS Comstock has a displacement of over 16,000 tons and stretches some 610 feet in length. Due to its amphibious support capabilities, the USS Comstock is ideally suited to support the Navy’s critical mission abroad, and can carry a fully equipped detachment of approximately 500 Marines, ready to strike for freedom wherever they are needed.
This coin is minted in bronze, finished with an antique patina, and pays tribute to the USS Comstock, saluting the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains a scene with a starboard view of the USS Comstock cutting through the ocean on a mission, with the ship’s motto “TEAMWORK-DRIVE-COURAGE” highlighted below. The reverse displays the shield and crest of the USS Comstock, imbued with bold colored enamel.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) round in diameter.
