Description
The USS Spica (T-AFS-9) served the United States Navy as a combat stores ship to provide underway replenishment in support of naval forces by providing refrigerated supplies, dry supplies, spare parts, general supplies, fleet freight, mail, and replacement personnel by alongside or by vertical replenishment processes. The Navy put the USS Spica out of service on 26 January 2008.
Minted from solid bronze, finished with an antique patina, this coin pays tribute to the USS Spica and salutes the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains a scene of the vessel sailing across the Pacific. The reverse displays the United States Navy logo.
Each coin measures 1 1/2 inch (39mm) in diameter.
