Part of the United States Coast Guard Atlantic Area, the 8th Coast Guard District is responsible for U.S. Coast Guard operations spanning 26 states, including the Gulf of Mexico coastline from Florida to Mexico, the adjacent offshore waters and outer continental shelf, as well as the inland waterways of the Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee River systems. One section of the 8th Coast Guard District is Sector Mobile.
U.S. Coast Guard Sector Mobile supports a wide range of Coast Guard operations to include search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, marine environmental protection, aids to navigation, and ports, waterways, and coastal security. The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Mobile includes 6 cutters, 6 small boat stations, 4 aids to navigation teams and 1 marine safety detachment.
