Description
Modeling the Coast Guard core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty, US Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound commands all US Coast Guard operations for Long Island Sound, including the south shore of Long Island and coastal Connecticut. The Command Center is located on the eastern side of New Haven, Connecticut, harbor.
Search & Rescue and Maritime Law Enforcement are coordinated through this Command Center, as are Commercial Vessel Safety and Environmental Protection. Maritime security has been extended to include the high seas. Annually, Sector Long Island Sound responds to thousands of marine distress calls; conducts hundreds of marine accident investigations; inspects foreign vessels, U.S. vessels, and tank facilities; and responds to hundreds of pollution cases that plague the sector.
Minted from bronze, and finished with an antique patina, this medallion is dedicated to the former and current Coast Guard and Civilian personnel who have proudly served this sector command in its important role to protect this nation’s freedom. It is an ideal gift or commemoration for anyone who has served the Command. The obverse features the emblem of Sector Long Island Sound. The reverse displays the logo of the US Coast Guard.
