Description
A Maritime Safety and Security Team, or MSST, is a counter-terrorism team of the United States Coast Guard established to protect local maritime assets. It is also a harbor and inshore patrol and security team that includes detecting and, if necessary, stopping or arresting submerged divers, using the Underwater Port Security System. It is the only special force that can arrest submerged divers.
Sector New York is the Coast Guard’s largest operational field command on the East Coast. The area maritime community knows “The Buck Stops Here” for all CG-related operational issues. The main staff is located at historic Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, New York. They execute CG operations from the waters off of Sandy Hook, NJ, north through the Port of NY/NJ, & continuing up the Hudson River to just south of Lake Champlain, and up the East River to the Long Island Sound/Connecticut border.
