Description
As the Coast Guard’s only facility for performing forensic oil analysis, the USCG Marine Safety Laboratory plays a fundamental role in safe guarding our marine environments. The lab not only provides forensic analysis of petroleum products, but also expert testimony in support of the oil pollution law enforcement efforts.
The USCG Marine Safety Laboratory is critical in identifying the sources of oil pollution, using sophisticated equipment and techniques, and adhering to the core element of unimpeachable quality, to provide analysis that is above reproach.
Minted from solid bronze, using special deep-relief coining dies, and hand-finished with an antique patina for exceptional quality and detail, this coin pays tribute to the marine scientists of the USCG Marine Safety Laboratory. The obverse, imbued with a bold enamel design, contains the emblem of the Marine Safety Laboratory. The reverse displays the seal of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
