Description

The officer rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) is one of the most important line officer rankings in the United States Coast Guard. It is an officer rank just below Commander, equivalent to Major in the other United States uniformed services.

Because all Coast Guard officers are considered line officers, on a daily basis the Lieutenant Commander is deeply involved with the Coast Guard’s vital missions of maritime safety, security and stewardship. His role is that of active leadership involving search and rescue, coastal security and defense readiness, and marine resources protection.

The Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander proudly wears a gold oak leaf collar insignia, and on formal uniforms displays the two medium and one narrow sleeve and shoulder braid stripe insignia.

Capturing the spirit and integrity of this proud service rank, the US Coastguard Lieutenant Commander challenge coin makes the ideal gift for anyone serving in that rank. The front of the coin shows a bold, high-relief bronze-colored oak leaf surrounded by the inscriptions Serving Proudly and US Coast Guard. The reverse is an impressive rendering of the US Coast Guard Officers Crest, circumference inscriptions being Lieutenant Commander and Semper Paratus. This handsome coin is crafted of nickel with enamel finish.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
