Modeling the Coast Guard core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty, U.S. Coast Guard Station Houston commands all U.S. Coast Guard operations for the Houston/Galveston/Texas City area, including managing traffic through Galveston Bay. The Command Center is located in Houston, Texas.
The Houston-Galveston-Texas City area is home to the largest petrochemical port in the United States and requires a monumental effort to keep the incredible amount of traffic safe and running smoothly through Galveston Bay into the Gulf of Mexico. The USCG Sector Houston-Galveston is responsible for the safe operation of the ports in addition to vehicle inspections, homeland security, oil spill prevention, and managing the commercial fishing interests.
