Description

Established in 1845 at the location of an old U.S. Army fort, the U.S. Naval Academy has served as the training ground for the officer corps of America’s Navy for more than 150 years.

The Naval Academy was founded by the Secretary of the Navy, George Bancroft, to meet America’s growing demand for naval power. Through the years, as the U.S. Navy has evolved from a small fleet of sail and steam-powered ships to a commanding force of nuclear powered surface ships, submarines, and supersonic aircraft, the U.S. Naval Academy has developed into the world’s elite maritime training academy. Focused squarely on preparing young men and women to assume leadership roles in the Navy, the U.S. Naval Academy plays a critical role in the continued success of America’s military and strategic objectives.

This coin salutes the U.S. Naval Academy and everyone affiliated with this outstanding American institution. The obverse features the Naval Academy’s official emblem.

Struck in a brass alloy, this coin is accented with enamel highlights on both sides.

Each coin measures 1.75 inches (44mm) in diameter.
