Description
Uncle Sam became a popular symbol of the United States made famous by Army recruitment posters of World War I and World War II. But Uncle Sam is a symbol for more, a symbol for unity, equality, freedom and justice, as well as a willingness to defend those ideals. This coin honors that symbolism, and is a tribute to all those citizens who have contributed to the defense of the ideals for which Uncle Sam stands.
Minted in a proprietary brass alloy, and struck in a specialized process called “splash minting,” this coin coin has a high-relief rendering of Uncle Sam with sleeves rolled up and bearing an attitude of being ready for work. The reverse carries the seals of the 5 branches of the military and the seal of the Department of Defense, raised from durable black enamel background.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
