Built for long range rescue and law enforcement operations, the 110-foot Island Class coastal patrol boat (WPB-110) is a vital part of the Coast Guard fleet.
With a maximum range of more than 2,000 nautical miles and an endurance of five days, the WPB-110 is designed to execute a full range of deep-water missions, from drug interdiction to long-range search and recovery. Each WPB-110 is fitted with highly advanced communications and surveillance equipment, including surface search radar, satellite navigation, and collision avoidance technology. Armed with heavy-duty firepower, it can reach a top speed of 29 knots in open water, enabling it to track, pursue, and neutralize potential threats to America’s national security.
This coin is dedicated to all those who perform vital law enforcement and search recovery missions aboard the Coast Guard’s premier coastal patrol boats. The obverse features a detailed rendering of the the WPB-110 fully underway with a Coast Guard helicopter hovering above its forward deck. In the background is a lighthouse, symbol of the Coast Guard’s long heritage as protector of the seas. The features an open area suitable for engraving a personal message or a name.
Minted in a brass alloy and gently brushed with an antique bronze finish, this coin is struck using special “splash” dies, which give the design an exceptionally high relief.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inches, (44mm) in diameter.
