Description
The Stryker armored vehicle is an essential part of the Army’s strategy to respond to 21-st century threats quickly and lethally.
Renowned for their versatility, these light armored vehicles have helped transform the Army’s ability to strike and defend targets anywhere in the world in a matter of days. The Stryker is named in honor of two separate Medal of Honor recipients: SPC 4 Robert F. Stryker, killed in action during Vietnam, and PFC Stuart Stryker, killed in action during World War II.
The basic vehicle can carry a nine-man infantry squad and crew of two along with .50 caliber machine gun and 40mm grenade launcher while still capable of reaching speeds in excess of 60 MPH. The Stryker family of armored vehicles is especially effective in urban combat environments. Stryker squads can quickly establish security positions in tight quarters or at an enemy’s doorstep.
The Stryker challenge coin’s obverse contains a depiction of the tough Stryker armored vehicle encircled by the models of the famous Stryker family of vehicles.
Minted in deep relief using a special “splash minting” process, this coin is struck in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
