On September 11, 2001, evil showed its face to America when terrorists attacks destroyed the World Trade Center in New York, inflicted significant damage on The Pentagon, and downed United Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
Though the nation was stunned by these unforgivable acts, the resolve of a country was proven in the moments after. In the time after Congress approved the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, which oversaw the Transportation Security Administration, whose key purpose is to prevent another 9/11 attack from occurring. On the 20th anniversary of the attacks, the TSA remains steadfast in its dedication to protecting Americans in their travels.
This coin honors the lives of those lost that day with a depiction of the World Trade Center Towers, Pentagon and Flight 93 (Somerset County, PA site) depicted in front of the American Flag, with the TSA emblem on the reverse, serving as constant reminders of the TSA’s purpose and mission.
