Known as the “Gateway to Europe,” the base’s strategic location makes it a crucial launch point for theater and strategic air mobility missions in Europe, Asia, and beyond. From its inception in 1952, Ramstein Air Base has played an important role in the international combat and crisis management mission of NATO. The base now serves as the headquarters for the NATO Allied Air Component Command.
