As the organization honored with the task of “protecting those who protect the nation,” the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) expertly safeguards the members and grounds of the Pentagon so the Department of Defense can safely pursue its critical task of overseeing America’s military operations.
As a response to the evil terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the PFPA is a civilian defense agency established on May 3, 2002 and stands ever ready to defend the Pentagon’s community amongst current and future threats. It is responsible for protecting the people and infrastructure of the 280-acre area that covers the Pentagon as well as safeguarding the Navy Annex and surrounding facilities in the National Capitol Region.
An elite team of law enforcement officers consisting of United States Pentagon Police is joined by teams of criminal investigative agents, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear technicians and anti-terrorism personnel to maintain a determined vigilance over those who lead America’s defenses.
The obverse of the coin depicts an Eagle with outstretched wings perched on top of the Pentagon, symbolizing America’s bold readiness to defend at whatever the cost. The reverse features the seal of the Department of Defense.
Minted in a brass alloy, this coin contains rich enamel accents on both its obverse and reverse sides.
