This Operating Unified Response – Haiti coin is an ideal salute to the U.S. Military personnel who proudly assisted the country of Haiti in the midst of one of the most devastating natural disasters in history.
On Tuesday January 12, 2010, a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake occurred just 16 miles from Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince. The devastation was unimaginable, yet even among the destruction the people of Haiti found new hope from the aid that the men and women of the U.S. military provided.
Aiding millions of Haitians affected by the earthquake, the U.S. Military gave urgent aid to millions of Haitians affected by the earthquake. From offering crucial medical aid, donating millions of pounds of food and rations, to rebuilding the infrastructure of the country, all five branches of the U.S. Military skillfully did their part to help in a time of overwhelming need.
Minted in antique brass and imbued with red, white, and blue enamel on the obverse, it features a montage that symbolizes the Haitian heritage. The reverse bears the seals of the Five Branches of America’s Armed Forces.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
