Description
Since 1908, the U.S. Army Reserve has trained and prepares combat-ready soldiers for rapid mobilization and deployment in support of America’s global military mission.
Earning the nickname citizen soldiers for their role as civilians who stand ready at a moment’s notice to answer the call to arms, they bolster the strength of America’s armed forces in times of war and national emergency. Though officially obligated to hone their combat skills once a month during field training exercises, the men and women who serve the U.S. Army Reserves commit considerably more in the way of energy and time to their individual units and the nation at large, even in times of peace.
This coin salutes the courageous service and dedicated commitment of all U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, as they carry out their mission to provide critical combat support in the defense of America’s freedom. Bordering the U.S. Army Reserve’s official emblem, this coin’s obverse pokes fun at the Army’s promise of one weekend a month of service. The reverse bears the Army seal. Struck in a brass alloy and given an antique finish, this coin is imbued with rich enamel accents on both sides.
Each coin measures 1 7/8 inches (47mm) in diameter.
