Critical in the building of Navy infrastructure, Steel Workers are essential to the success of the Navy’s operations around the world.
Steel Workers rig and operate all special equipment used to move or hoist structural steel, structural shapes and similar material. They erect and dismantle steel bridge, piers, buildings, storage tanks, etc. They work with steel shapes, plates and built-up sections used in the construction of overseas facilities. They are skilled in arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and gas welding.
This coin salutes the service of all Steel Workers, whose tireless dedication to duty helps to sustain the Navy’s outstanding naval and air power.
Minted on the obverse against a blue enameled backdrop is the specialty insignia of the U.S. Navy Steel Worker. The reverse contains a stylized anchor design, which incorporates a full color rendering of the U.S. Navy’s official emblem.
Struck in a copper nickel alloy, this coin contains an antique finish. Each coin comes packaged with a header card that describes the contributions of the Navy’s Steel Workers.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inches, (44mm) in diameter.
