Description

Commissioned in 1968, Naval Air Station Meridian Mississippi has provided aviation and technical training to support the Navy’s mission throughout the world for more than 35 years.

The main base at NAS Meridian is located 90 miles due east of the capital city of Jackson and occupies more than 8,000 acres. NAS Meridian owns and utilizes an additional 4,000 acres at Joe Williams Naval Outlying Field. The base, which supports more than 4,000 military and civilian personnel and dependents, is the official home of Training Wing One and training squadrons VT-7 and VT-9. In addition to testing and conducting training on some of the Navy’s most sophisticated aircraft, such as the Boeing T-45C Goshawk, NAS Meridian maintains a 25-member Search and Rescue Team tasked with leading SAR operations throughout eastern Mississippi and western Alabama.

This coin salutes the mission of Naval Air Station Meridian Mississippi and honors all those who support this facility. The obverse features the installation’s official emblem. The reverse bears the seals of the various squadrons hosted at NAS Meridian.

Struck in a brass alloy, this coin is accented on both sides by bright enamel.

Each coin measures 1.75 inch (44mm) in diameter.
