Description

With an elevation of 14,497 feet, Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the contiguous United States.

Dominating views of the eastern Sierra Nevada Range, its steep slopes rise sharply out of Owens Valley on the edge of the Sequoia National Park, gaining elevation steeply to culminate in the mountain’s chiseled granite summit. Mt. Whitney offers a variety of hiking and climbing opportunities, from day trips to longer, more strenuous ascents. The mountain’s East Face route, first climbed in 1931, is a classic High Sierra easy route. The Northeast Face and the “Needles” to the south of the main summit contain a series of routes to challenge rock climbers of higher ability.

This coin is a momento for any who have pushed up Mount Whitney’s steep slopes. The obverse contains a rendering of Mount Whitney and includes its elevation. The reverse depicts a mountain climber standing on the summit.

This coin is minted in Merlin Gold®, a proprietary brass alloy that simulates the look and feel of real gold.

Each coin measures 1 1/2 (39mm) in diameter.
