Description

Perhaps the best-known mountain in the Cascade Range, Mount St. Helens’ distinctive dome stands 8, 363 feet high.

After a series of violent eruptions obliterated more than 3,000 feet of elevation from its northern rim on May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens has attracted a growing number of climbers to its base each year.

Hoping to catch a glimpse of the massive horseshoe-shaped crater that now occupies most of the mountain’s north face, climbers from all over the world seek out the challenge offered by Mount St. Helens’ unique terrain.

This coin is dedicated to those climbers who have persevered to master the mountain’s steep slopes. The obverse features a detailed rendering of Mount St. Helens, complete with its elevation. The reverse depicts a triumphant mountaineer standing atop the mountain’s snowy summit.

Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is finished in antique bronze.

Each coin measures 1 1/2 inch (39mm) in diameter.

This is an NWTMINT surplus item. Packaging may vary.
