Standing at 7,969 feet, Mount Olympus is the highest peak in Washington State’s majestic Olympic Range, and at the heart of the Olympic National Park.
Located in close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, this sizable mountain is capped with three summit peaks that rise above the vast scenic beauty of Olympic National Park. Mount Olympus contains eight glaciers that extend down from its summit as well as several icefields above 5,000 feet. Although ascents are often made difficult by low visibility and other weather-related factors, climbers with basic glacier travel skills routinely reach the summit. The normal approach is via a trail along the Hoh River to the Glacier Meadows Camp site.
This coin salutes all those climbers who have pushed up Mount Olympus’ steep slopes as well as those who have admired Olympus from afar. The obverse features a rendering of Mount. Olympus and includes its elevation. The reverse contains two ice axes, time-honored symbols of mountaineering, below an open area available for engraving a personal message.
Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is finished in antique bronze.
Each coin measures 1 1/2 (39mm) in diameter.
