Description
Mount Shasta is the second highest peak in the Cascade Range and the most prominent peak in northern California. The USGS (and our hiking medallion) has the summit recorded at 14,162 feet. Although a recent resurvey of the peak differs and tags it at 14,179, most official records still reflect the older, lower figure.
Mount Shasta’s distinctive volcanic cone contains California’s only true glaciers, which extend down along the mountain’s north and east slopes. Drawn by the peak’s beauty, its varied terrain and its shear size, climbers from all over the world visit Mount Shasta attempt its summit. Guarded by cascading snowfields, whipping winds, and sudden storms, the mountain’s steep slopes the mountain provides significant challenge.
This distinctive coin is dedicated to the beauty of this magnificent peak, to those who admire it and to those who attempt its summit. The obverse contains a rendering of Mount Shasta and includes its elevation. The reverse has two classic ice axes below an open area suitable for engraving a personal message.
Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is finished in antique bronze.
