Description
The Marine Safety Unit that operates from Coast Guard Station Portland conducts search and rescue emergencies, recreational boating safety, and homeland security missions 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Established on 18 August 1997, U.S.C.G. Station Portland is relatively and is home to 24 active duty personnel with 37 reserves. Each year, the station executes on average more than 150 search and rescue operations and 600 ship boarding’s.
U.S.C.G Station Portland also shares a major responsibility for homeland security operations in the region. In addition, the station also performs a variety of traditional Coast Guard missions, including environmental protection and recreational boating safety.
This shiny finish challenge coin is covered in rich enamel paint. The obverse features an image of the city of Portland Oregon in the background, with an orange banner carrying the symbol of the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as a red rose in the foreground. After all, Portland is known as the city of roses. The reverse carries the official symbol of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
