Marine safety training of the United States Coast Guard operates to support safety aboard marine vessels and waterfront facilities including both accident prevention, assessment and response. Training in facility and vessel inspections and training in the nature of materials stored and transported in them are paramount to that end.
Training Center Yorktown occupies the easternmost tip of Virginia’s historical triangle, formed by Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. Notable historical events occurred there, including a siege the British Army that had fortified the seaport hamlet there by Colonial and French forces, and during the Civil War, became a key installation established by the Union’s Army of the Potomac. Today, Training Center Yorktown has grown into the Coast Guard’s largest training command, providing instruction in all of the Coast Guard’s operational programs. The pride, professionalism, and excellence of staff and students alike, clearly pay tribute to the colonial vision and courage that gave birth to our great nation.
Struck in a brass alloy and gently brushed with an antique bronze finish, this coin is imbued with richly-colored enamel on both sides.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
