Description
Located in Germany, The Landstuhl Regional Medical Center treats a large proportion of the seriously wounded from the conflicts in the Middle East, flown in via Ramstein Air Base. This coin is a tribute to the tireless and selfless service of the medical staff at Landstuhl who treat our warriors regardless of branch.
As the largest military hospital outside of the continental United States, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center serves as the nearest treatment center for wounded soldiers coming from Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, it serves military personnel stationed in Germany as well as their family members.
Minted from solid nickel, and imbued with bold colored enamel, this medallion is dedicated to the men and women who proudly give their service to heal our wounded warriors. The obverse features the distinctive insignia of Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a castle over the blue six point Star of Life with a red banner above and words “SELFLESS SERVICE,” the center’s motto. The reverse displays the caduceus, the traditional symbol for the U.S. Army Medical Corps and is a serpent-entwined rod that has become a symbol associated with modern medicine.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
