Formed in 1988 to replace the Veterans Administration, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is the federal government’s second largest department.
Charged with delivering acute and preventative health care services and overseeing the administration of benefits for America’s military service veterans and their families, it employs approximately 219,000 professionals. Operating hundreds of full-service medical facilities and clinics across the United States, the VA not only provides direct patient care, but also sponsors and conducts theoretical and applied research in all areas of medicine. Offering a full range of benefits for those who have sacrificed for our nation’s freedom, it is recognized as one of America’s most prestigious and honorable institutions.
This coin is dedicated to all American service veterans and honors those who serve the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs with pride. The obverse contains the organization’s official emblem, which depicts an eagle clutching both a vintage and modern American flag. The reverse contains an open area suitable for engraving.
Minted in a proprietary brass alloy then given a rich antique bronze finish, this coin comes packaged in a polybag with a header card.
Each coin measures 1.5 inches (39mm) in diameter.
