Description
The Southwest Harbor Maine complex of the Coast Guard was placed in its present location in 1945 after serving from a Life Saving Station on Little Cranberry Island where it was established by an act of Congress in 1878. In 2005, it was recommissioned as a Sector Field Office (SFO), a sub-unit under Coast Guard Sector Northern New England. Since 2006, it has served as a logistics and support department of SNNE.
This coin salutes the dedicated professionals who have served SFO Southwest Harbor Maine. Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is embued with durable enamel in the bold colors of the emblem of the station.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
