Operating as a vital unit within Coast Guard District 7, Sector Charleston provides direct support for all Coast Guard operations, including search and rescue, fisheries and other law enforcement, and aids to navigation maintenance.
Commissioned in 1914, Sector Charleston is headquartered at Base Charleston on the East side of the Ashley River and is one of the oldest operational Coast Guard bases in the country. To complete its mission, Sector Charleston works closely with Coast Guard District 7 resources and maintains maximum integration with strategic assets from Charleston Air Force Base and Naval Weapons Station Charleston. Vigilantly protecting America’s southeastern coast and providing critical marine response capabilities across all Coast Guard operational areas, Sector Charleston is a vital component of the Coast Guard’s national network.
This coin salutes Sector Charleston and all those who serve this great installation. The obverse features a rendering of the Sector Charleston emblem. The reverse bears the official seal of the U.S. Coast Guard.
