Charged with performing vital underwater maintenance and repair tasks, the Coast Guard’s Second Class Divers ensure the safe and effective operation of all vessels and marine equipment.
Second Class Divers are trained to perform a full range of marine equipment safety evaluation missions, deep water construction projects, and underwater maintenance tasks, such as propeller changes and hull repair. Additionally, they are qualified to participate in search and salvage of sunken vessels in deep water environments. Advancing in skill and experience, Second Class Divers help support the Coast Guard mission of mastering the maritime domain to protect and defend America’s waterways and coastlines.
This coin is dedicated to the Second Class Divers of the U.S. Coast Guard, whose untiring devotion to duty strengthens America’s homeland defense. Featured on the obverse is a detailed rendering of the insignia worn by these individuals. Depicted on the reverse is the tri-color racing stripe found on all Coast Guard aircraft and vessels. Embedded in the design is the official Coast Guard emblem, featuring a disk inscribed with the service’s founding date and the shield of the Coat of Arms of the United States, superimposed against a pair of crossed anchors.
Minted in copper nickel and given antique silver finish, this coin is imbued with crisp enamel on both sides.
