Versatile and extremely powerful, the Coast Guard’s 378-foot High Endurance Cutters (WHEC) patrol the world’s oceans in defense of America’s national interests.
Boasting a range of 10,000 nautical miles, these enormous ships are designed to execute deep water missions from search and rescue to drug interdiction to strategic intelligence gathering and reconnaissance. Stretching 378 feet in length and measuring 43 feet wide, this ship has a displacement of 3,250 tons under full load and can reach a top speed of 29 knots. Equipped with a helicopter flight deck, retractable hangar, and the facilities to support helicopter deployment, High Endurance Cutters are designed to meet the Coast Guard’s mission of securing America’s territorial waters and protecting the nation’s coastlines.
This coin is dedicated to the men and women who serve with skill and courage aboard the Coast Guard’s High Endurance Cutters. The obverse features a rendering of this ship as it pursues its maritime mission. The reverse bears the seal of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Minted in a brass alloy and gently brushed with an antique bronze finish, this coin is struck using special “splash” dies, which give the design an exceptionally high relief.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inches, (44mm) in diameter.
