Health Services Technicians provide routine and emergency health care services to Coast Guard personnel and their families.
Trained and skilled in patient evaluation and treatment, Health Services Technicians provide hands-on technical assistance to medical and dental officers, administer immunizations, conduct patient examinations, perform diagnostic testing, and even perform minor surgical procedures. Assigned to clinics and sick bays on shore and aboard seagoing cutters, these highly proficient men and women also regularly participate in search and rescue and medical evacuation operations, helping the Coast Guard achieve its mission of protecting and saving lives.
This coin salutes the technical skill and proven expertise of the Coast Guard’s Health Services Technicians. Featured on the obverse is a detailed rendering of the distinctive rating badge worn by these individuals. In honor of the Coast Guard’s heritage as America’s oldest continuous maritime force, the reverse depicts a team of intrepid Coast Guard sailors braving rough surf as they approach a lighthouse and features a space for engraving.
